Having this well-loved, multi-awarded Filipino pop-folk band on the Concert Series is always a pleasure. We also witnessed their musical growth through the years, from just Miguel and Paolo performing their sound on the Concert Series to introducing the band the next and now to having all established members back on the show and live in studio a few years later!
Every OPM enjoyer can attest to how inspiring and sentimental Ben&Ben’s music is. Since 2018, the Bens have grown and amassed thousands of fans and supporters, which they endearingly call their “Liwanag”. Until now, they are still at a solid and steady pace, having gigs left and right, abroad and internationally. Ben&Ben is truly a star on its own, delivering its striking yet adoring sounds everywhere.
As mentioned, Ben&Ben performed at the Concert Series back when they were still starting in 2018. It was one of the first moments the Monster met the Bens. “Every time we come here sa RX, it’s kind of like a bookmark every time.” Miguel shared. “There’s so many words to describe these beautiful people. Siguro kahit napaka-generic niya, it’s a beautiful one.” The band is a token of the found family. Their all-around love for each other is also shown in their songs and translated in every performance they have. The songs they wrote and released truly got people to overcome difficult life situations, get uplifted when they were down in the dumps, or simply enjoy every Ben&Ben song's beautiful notes. “In a way, we were able to connect to people we wouldn’t have ever known.” One of the reasons their 2020 single ‘Lifetime’ was written and released was all because of a fan’s comment in one of their music videos. The fan shared her heartbreaking story of a love that could’ve been had she not been scared of her feelings. The Bens saw the comment and was immediately inspired to write a song about that story; hence ‘Lifetime’ was born. This is just a mere example of how Ben&Ben connects with people through their music—even getting inspired by them!
Ben&Ben is mostly known for their tear-jerking and heartfelt songs, but recently tried out something new with ‘Could Be Something.’ They shifted their 2023 single into a more upbeat, dance-pop groovy track. There isn’t any specific reason why they changed their sound a bit. Still, it was probably because of their different life experiences and listening to new artists that influenced the change in their musical direction. It was a fun, and enjoyable process. They are in this season of exploring different sides of making music.
Like all bands, the Bens also started small. They performed at local gigs and small-town venues until they moved on to blast their music on big stages, massive music festivals, and even various shows abroad. Singing in front of their audience and hearing their supporters sing along to them is a euphoric feeling for the band. But Ben&Ben did share the song that truly evoked the fans' emotions, which is none other than their 2018 hit ‘Ride Home’.
Ben&Ben is something else, and we’ll never see anything like them. We’re proud to say that the Monster was there from the start of their journey and continues to be there as they grow. Big thanks to Ben&Ben for being a part of our Monster Anniversary Concert Series special!
