On Monday June 6, Rico Robles sat down with actor Diego Loyzaga for an exclusive online interview on All Out! This time around, Diego was prepared to set the record straight and address the rumors about past and present relationships.
Rico first wanted to know what happened between Diego and ex-girlfriend Barbie Imperial. Speculation about the couple’s split began when fans noticed the two were no longer posting photos and stories together on social media. Barbie confirmed the breakup around February this year, and Diego admitted on All Out, “December pa lang, we had broken up.”
Diego says that he and Barbie though they really tried to make it work, they eventually ended things on good terms. “We reassessed [our relationship], and we were like, ‘Parang we’re not helping each other grow anymore.’” Addressing rumors of unfaithfulness, Diego confirmed, “I can happily sit here and say I never cheated on Barbie. She knows that.”
The actor also reminded the audience that what you see on social media is not always the full truth — They would always post about the happy side, but there was always more to the story. Both he and Barbie also didn’t feel the need to defend and explain themselves amidst the gossip that popped up during the course of their relationship.
If there’s one valuable lesson Diego learned from being with Barbie, it’s the importance of self-love and security. “When the couple don’t love themselves enough first, doon pumapasok yung insecurities, lack of trust, doubts. You start making up scenarios in your head like, ‘If I’m not with her, I wonder who she’s with,’” he explained. “If you love yourself and if you trust yourself, you’ll also trust your partner.”
Diego also took the opportunity to let everyone know the real deal between him and Franki Russell, who have recently been sparking rumors online.
When the speculation was first brought up in May, the two were just friends. Now, however, is a different story: “I would definitely say that right now, we’re dating,” Diego confirmed. “I said I wanted to focus on myself, but I guess these things, you don’t expect it eh.”
Speculation about the two began around Diego’s birthday, when Franki greeted him through an Instagram carousel of their photos. Later on, they talked about the inevitable repercussions of the greeting, and Franki decided to take the post down, replacing it with an Instagram story greeting instead.
But things have progressed since then, and though the two haven’t put any labels on it, there seems to be a possibility of officially becoming a couple!
For now, Diego is dedicating time to working on ongoing and future projects. Taping for the upcoming remake of “Ang Babaeng Nawawala Sa Sarili” was recently concluded, and Diego is also set to star in films alongside his father, Cesar Montano.
