What a way to cap off our weekend! Anne-Marie put on an explosive show last Sunday at New Frontier Theater for the Manila leg of her Dysfunctional Tour.
Even before the show started, our interest was instantly piqued seeing the stage design. Just take a look at those cute giant teddy bears!
Then the stage began lighting up and the music started to build, hyping up the crowd for Anne-Marie to come on stage. The crowd went wild as she started off the show with “Ciao Adios!”
It was clear that Anne-Marie felt the audience’s energy as they sang along to every word and waved their light sticks. She even made an effort to speak in Filipino shouting, “Kanta!” and “Kumusta?” which of course delighted everyone! Anne-Marie kept the energy up with two more feisty songs, “x2” and “Alarm” before pausing to talk to the crowd.
“I think this is the loudest crowd I’ve ever had,” she said. “This show is one I’m gonna remember for the rest of my life!” Filipino fans never disappoint! Anne-Marie also set the tone for the rest of the night, saying she’d be singing lots of angry songs, but some love songs, too.
It wouldn’t be a Philippine concert without the artist being amazed at how well Filipinos can sing along! Before singing “Rockabye” (her collab track with Clean Bandit and Sean Paul), Anne-Marie told the crowd she’d need everyone’s help to sing the song’s chorus. The track didn’t even start yet, and the crowd sang the whole chorus! Anne-Marie just listened and watched in awe, joking “That was too good, you’re making me look bad!”
Another very sweet audience interaction moment: When Anne-Marie let a little girl sing with her on stage! During “Perfect,” Anne-Marie spotted a young fan named Harley taking pictures and asked the bouncers to bring her up on stage. Then Anne-Marie handed Harleen the microphone and she sang the chorus ~perfectly!~ Anne-Marie’s reaction was priceless. If you were there but couldn’t quite see it, or you just want to watch this wholesome moment, Harley’s mom posted the video on TikTok. Love it, stage mom!
Once Anne-Marie sang the opening line of “2002,” the audience was cheering at the top of their lungs! A classic Anne-Marie hit, and definitely our LSS of the night! At the end of the track, she played a mashup of the songs she referenced – hearing “Baby One More Time,” “99 Problems,” and “Ride Wit Me” ‘really did take us back to 2002! The mashup track transitioned seamlessly into her next song “Kiss My (Uh Oh),” a song she released with Little Mix. “You are the best crowd I’ve had,” Anne-Marie said. “I’m having more fun than you!”
The energy was high for the rest of the night as she sang more of her ‘angry’ but super catchy bops like “I Just Called,” “Don’t Play,” and her latest single “PSYCHO.”
“I don’t wanna leave! I might just rope myself to the stage and stay forever,” she joked. “I’m being serious, this is my favorite show of all time.” Hearing those words from Anne-Marie was surreal and we’re sure every fan in the room that night felt kilig on a whole new level! She ended the show with “FRIENDS” and a big boom of confetti showered New Frontier Theater. Before stepping off the stage, Anne-Marie bid the crowd goodbye, “Salamat, mahal ko kayo! I love you so much!”
