“This world never deserved you,
Just a beautiful soul passing through,
It’s hard to find the words to
Express the way I’m missing you.”
These are the lines from a new song Nadine Lustre has been working on about her late brother, Isaiah. On her interview with All Out’s Rico and Karla, Nadine got real about her new music, her family, being in the entertainment industry, and more!
The Facebook livestream felt like a casual conversation between the three, with unfiltered thoughts about anything in life! And fans were so thankful to be tuned in – it made them feel like they were part of the conversation, too. We even got exclusive snippets of new tracks she’s been working on for her next album!
What to expect from Nadine’s album? It will be very personal, like a diary that she wants to share with the listeners. This lockdown has actually helped in the writing process, too. “I have all the time to spend just inside my head, trying to figure out what happened in my life the past few years. Things that I’ve hid in a box for a very long time, I had to pull out and kind of decode them, and learn to express.” To Nadine, a good album should help your listeners connect with you. “It’s like sharing your story, and I haven’t done that. I know a lot of people know what happened in my life, but in the details, not really.” So, expect to hear Nadine’s side of her own story soon!
Nadine expressed how excited she is for this new album (no name and release date yet, but we’ll be looking out). She’s been a lot more involved in writing, which is something she used to be intimidated by. But once she stopped doubting herself and just started writing, she fell in love with it, and got a lot of encouragement from people she works with, too! She’s been working with amazing people; she mentioned Calvin Keith and Marcus Davis, and how she loves to work with them because they understand her so well. “With Calvin, I loved working with him because we’re in the same headspace,” she said. “When he writes and he sends me the lyrics, it’s like, ‘dude you read my mind!’”
With Marcus, he helped Nadine in creating a song for brother Isaiah. “We had a long chat, we talked about what happened. He’s spearheading the album, so I had to tell him everything in my life, everything I wanna write about, what I want for this album.” From there, the song just came together with Marcus’ help. “It’s funny how it’s like he just took the words right out of my mouth. He knew exactly what I wanted to say.” That’s when Nadine read out the first verse, and even sang a bit of it on the livestream!
Nadine’s family has made a very big impact on her life, and she talked about her parents’ influence as well. She admits that her creativity (and a bit of her 80’s and 90’s music taste) comes from her dad! On the other hand, she gets her intuition and organization from her mom. "She’s also very caring and knows what we need even before we say anything.” Right now, Nadine lives with her brother Ezekiel, and they bond by cooking, watching movies, and playing video games. Cute, just like typical siblings!
If there’s anyone who inspires Nadine outside of her family, it’s Lady Gaga. She’s seen Lady Gaga’s Netflix documentary “Five Foot Two” over 10 times! “She’s real, she’s honest. She’s not afraid to show everyone who she really is, and I’m learning from that.” Nadine hopes she can be a source of inspiration for others, too. “I want people to learn from me as well then way I’m learning from her. I want to inspire people to be themselves and not be afraid to show who they really are.” She likes it when people send her messages asking for advice, knowing that she can be an example of strength to others.
This is the kind of attitude Nadine is known for in the showbiz industry! We love how unapologetic and authentic she is! Karla and Rico praised her for it, and asked her where she gets the strength to deal with everything she faces. “I used to care what people say about me. But being in this industry, I grew so much. I guess I learned how to be bulletproof.” She talked about how on the outside, it looks like celebrities have perfect lives, but the reality is not that way. “We don’t have everything. There are a lot of things that I wanna achieve. A lot of things in my life that I wish were different,” she admitted. “The biggest challenge that I experienced being in this industry is to learn how to put a straight face on, even though inside you’re already falling apart. I experienced that when my brother died.”
Karla sympathized with Nadine on this one, and said that her admiration for Nadine grew even more after this happened. “When you have real problems, when things happen in your life – because your life is still a ‘regular life’ – it becomes harder to do the things you had to do.” See, this is why the All Out duo and Nadine are such great friends!
From the many years of being in the industry and working with different people, something that stuck with her was a small piece of advice from Boy Abunda: Keep doing what you’re doing. “Because it only means that I’m doing something right,” Nadine explained.
So what has this queen been up to under quarantine? Well, she wakes up at 5 or 6 in the morning everyday because of her cute (and IG famous) dog, Calcifer! Then she works out, has breakfast, then continues whatever she needs to work on that day, whether it’s writing music, selling her old things, ‘Marie Kondo-ing’ her place, or working on Lustrous. Yup, that’s right, she’s working on a new collection for her makeup line! Production is on hold for now, but Nadine is working hard for this to be her best collection yet. She’s also been watching a lot of movies – her current favorite is “Mr. Nobody” starring Jared Leto.
Before leaving, Nadine gave a message to her fans, who were sooo excited to see her on the show! “You guys are crazy, I love you all! I hope everyone’s doing okay. I’ve said this so many times, I super appreciate them. They’re out of this world, they’re all crazy, I’m telling you!” she laughed. “It’s been a crazy, crazy journey for everyone. You guys are always in our hearts.”
And Nadine’s message for herself? “We can do this, girl! I swear, I’m happy with what you’ve become,” she said. “This is only the beginning. Just keep working hard and keep believing in yourself. Kapit lang, girl! That’s a message for everyone as well. Just enjoy life, live life, feel everything!”
There’s so much that went down during that amazing 2-hour conversation with Nadine! It was awesome having her with Rico and Karla on All Out. If you wanna catch the whole thing, head over to our Facebook page and check it out:
