EXO’s Sehun & Chanyeol were welcomed with a yellow ocean filling up Araneta Coliseum as they capped off their ‘Back to Back Fancon Tour’ in Manila last Saturday, May 20.
Before the fancon, EXO-SC held a press conference with the media and some lucky fans at the Quantum Sky View, Gateway 2. They recalled how their sub-unit started and how they love working with each other, and shared that they still have a lot of things in store for fans of the duo.
Chanyeol and Sehun also answered the Monster’s question of what is something the other possesses that they’d like to have. Sehun said he wants “everything,” while Chanyeol revealed that he admires Sehun's manliness – but not before teasingly saying he wanted “nothing.” That banter? That’s brotherly love right there!
Asked about the key to their long-lasting career, EXO-SC said that they think the biggest secret is just to have fun. If we considered this as a job, we might have worn out a long time ago. But because of the relationships between the members, we're a family and very close friends, which is why we're having so much fun," they explained. And have fun they did!
During the fancon proper itself, the excitement of the 10,000-strong sold-out crowd was palpable as EXO-SC opened the show with an energetic performance of ‘What A Life’. Everybody was singing along and dancing in their seats!
The boys then greeted their fans. “It’s been a long time since we came here to the Philippines. We really missed you a lot,” Sehun said in Korean, while Chanyeol impressed EXO-Ls with his Filipino, adding: “Kayo ang the best! Mahal kita!”
The duo then proceeded to perform a setlist that included ‘1 Billion Views,’ ‘Borderline,’ ‘Fly Away,’ ‘Rodeo Station’ and ‘Just Us 2.’ But aside from their stellar performances, Sehun and Chanyeol were able to have fun and interact more with Filo Eris through fun games and activities.
During the “Catch Up Talk” segment, the boys gave a sneak peek of their phones’ galleries as they shared some never-before-seen photos and the stories behind them. Chanyeol shared a photo of him posing with several stuffed toys and lounging in a hotel room, while Sehun shared photos of him swimming in a pool and playing at the monkey bars. Such cuties!
They also played a telepathy game called “Can You Hear My Heart,” where they proved their strong bond by answering the same for 4 out of 5 questions.
Sehun and Chanyeol showed their competitiveness when they played a relay game that included the traditional Filipino sport sipa and bottle flips. As a treat, the boys were able to try Filipino delicacies such as sapin-sapin, pichi-pichi, and biko, which they found delicious, devouring the whole plate!
Perhaps the highlight of the night was the “Ladder Game” segment, which draws inspiration from EXO’s variety show. This part of the show had Sehun dancing to some of EXO’’s biggest hits such as ‘Love Shot,’ ‘Growl,’ and ‘The Eve,’ with Chanyeol joining him for “Love Me Right.’ The crowd’s screams were deafening, showing just how much EXO-Ls have missed seeing the boys perform and getting them hyped up for EXO’s upcoming group comeback! We at the Monster sure are seated for it!
Chanyeol, on the other hand, got Filo Eris all kilig and sentimental during this segment as he surprised the crowd by singing ‘Hawak Kamay’ by Yeng Constantino – a song EXO as a full group had actually performed during their first visit to the Philippines in 2013! He also granted the fans’ request for another performance, delivering an acoustic cover of Radiohead’s ‘Creep.’ Chanyeol’s suave vocals definitely got us swooning!
Sehun and Chanyeol were also surprised by Filo EXO-Ls with their touching fan project, which included special hand banners and a video of fans from all over the country singing to and doing the ‘1 Billion Views’ challenge. The boys were so clearly touched, it was a beautiful sight to see!
To conclude the fan concert, the boys thanked their fans for coming to see them live. "You're the best! When you're singing with me, it made me feel really good," Chanyeol shared.
"I was very surprised because even though the song is in Korean, you were still singing with us." Sehun added "I really enjoyed with all of you guys. Please watch out for us. I promise we will come back with all the EXO members."
We’ll be waiting for sure! See you at the next ‘Exoplanet’ concert, boys!
