The Script brought their ‘Freedom Child World Tour’ to Manila on Saturday, April 14. The concert was energetic and inspiring. They mixed old and new music that the whole crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena enjoyed.
An opening act performed a few songs that had the audience super ready for the main event. The main show started a short interval after that.
Following the opening song "Superheroes" were "Rock the World" and "Paint the Town Green." We knew that we were going to witness a great show when a shower of bright green confetti fell over our heads while Danny jumped over the barricade to meet his Filipino fans.
Aside from hearing ‘'The Man Who Can’t Be Moved" live, the highlight of the concert would be when Danny, Mark, and Glen stepped down from the stage, walked through the crowd to the other end of the arena, climbed the patron section, and performed two songs acoustically. Yep! they did that while standing right next to screaming, video-recording fans (don't worry! concert marshalls were there to make sure they were safe hehe).
The whole concert was as unforgettable as it is because aside from phenomenal musical talent, The Script has an undeniably strong fan connection. Danny is very candid and casual, I feel like he's my friend who understands all my heart aches and my socioeconomic dilemmas.
As the show progressed, Danny repeatedly thanked his Filipino fans for the support. "That, right there, is the Manila I remember," Danny told the crowd. He kept saying that he always knew how well they will be received in the Philippines. As testimony to that, the arena was filled to the brim with fans.
‘'No Good In Goodbye,'’ ‘'Breakeven’' and ‘'Hall of Fame’' were the encore songs.
A sea of phone lights is a usual sight in a concert but when Danny asked the audience to "bring out your phones" to create a moment during "Hall of Fame", it was somehow different. It felt so genuine and epic. The frontman ended the show by running through the crowd in front of the stage while a Philippine flag was perched on his shoulders.
Monster jocks were also at the arena to witness the Freedom Child Tour. Look!
