The Kings of Hallyu found their way back to Manila for the Super Show 9: Road tour! Filipino E.L.F.s were excited to welcome back Super Junior members Leeteuk, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun to the Philippines after years of waiting.
We had the pleasure of attending SS9 Day 2 on Sunday, December 18, and we’re honored that Manila was their last stop for 2022. Way to finish strong! SM MOA Arena was transformed with a stage that extended all the way to the VIP seated areas – ideal for E.L.F.s who are eager to get close to their idols.
The show kicked off with Piece 1: “The One Who Lost Their Memory” where the group performed their opening number “Burn The Floor” – this gave major mystery, crime mafia vibes and it was an amazing number to set the vibe. Super Junior’s undeniable talent showed us they’re staying strong in the ever-growing K-Pop game!
During Piece 2: “I Came To Save Myself” Super Junior took time to say hello and greet everyone a Merry Christmas. They told everyone about how much fun they had after Day 1 in Manila, and although they were sad it was the last day, they were ready to give everyone a good time. The crowd screamed in support of everything the members said! Kyuhun thanked the fans for waiting for SuJu to come back, as they promised. Siwon added, “Manila is the best!”
Piece 3: “Memories” was a more melodic and sentimental set that highlighted Super Junior’s singing talent with colorful visuals to match. The arena looked beautiful with the colorful LED screens perfectly complementing all the lightsticks in the audience! During these slower songs like “Believe” and “My Wish,” they also got closer to the audience to interact with them, waving and taking photos.
Even as Super Junior took breaks for costume changes, there was never a dull moment during the show. Creative VCRs would flash on-screen, even with some funny moments and games among the group members to keep the audience entertained!
The dancing continued with fun, upbeat hits like “Latte” and “House Party.” We could see how much fun SuJu was having on stage, and it really felt like a house party! They couldn’t help but praise the Filipino E.L.F.s’ energy as well. They said they loved how everyone was dancing to songs that usually aren’t danceable. “You’re so passionate!”
Of course, the crowd went wild for “Sorry Sorry” which still slaps after thirteen years! The energy was high, they delivered an amazing number, and the audience loved every second. After that came the 2010 hit “Bonamana,” their last song – but of course, fans wouldn’t let them go without an encore!
After one last VCR, Super Junior came back on stage wearing white tees and blue Santa hats. They took the opportunity to go around the audience once again during their last few songs “More Days With You,” “Walkin,” and “Happiness.” We spotted them taking polaroid photos, selfies, and videos with the audience’s phones. How cute!
They also gave their last messages of the night, promising to try their best to make another Manila stop in 2023. “Anything is possible when you have the right people,” Siwon said. “Truly, thank you!”
If 2023 means we get to see Super Junior live again, then we can’t wait for the new year! Thank you to PULP Live World for making Super Show 9: Road in Manila possible.
