In what felt like a giant, nostalgic karaoke fest, Irish folk-pop band The Corrs made their way back to the Philippines after over two decades for their 2-day Manila concert! The Monster got a chance to witness them live during Day 1, and it was definitely a show we’ll never forget.
Held last October 23 at the Araneta Coliseum, the concert began with Australian pop band Germain taking the stage and setting the tone for the night, involving the audience during their performance by having them sing along and chant with them. Like the Corrs, Germain is a family band consisting of sisters Georgia, Ella, and Clara.
When the lights dimmed to signal the start of the main act, the energy was electric! Andrea, Caroline, Sharon, and Jim were welcomed with deafening cheers and applause as they kicked off the show with ‘Only When I Sleep,’ ‘Give Me A Reason,’ and ‘Summer Sunshine.’
"Mabuhay, Manila! Magandang gabi! Masaya kaming makabalik dito," lead vocalist Andrea said in Filipino. "It's been quite a while — over 20 years? And we really, really wanted to come back from that last gig because the welcome you gave us was unforgettable… So it's finally happened. You know there's a lot of bad times in the world these days but this is not one of them. Let's just have an amazing night tonight and share the love." And they for sure stood by that statement!
The concert ran for almost two hours, with The Corrs delivering amazing performances of ‘Bring on the Night,’ ‘Radio,’ ‘No Frontiers,’ ‘Don’t Say You Love Me,’ and ‘So Young,’ among others. The band treated the crowd by playing their instruments and dancing along to Irish traditional music between sets, making the audience appreciate their talent even more!
And of course, the moment The Corrs’ Pinoy fans were all waiting for, Andrea, Caroline, Sharon, and Jim saved the best for last as they sang their mega hits ‘Breathless’ and ‘Runaway’ for the encore! The crowd was singing along so loudly, it felt like you were in the midst of a choir – truly a hair-raising experience that’s one for the books.
Thank you for an amazing night of music and memories, The Corrs! We will be waiting patiently for your return (hopefully, it won’t take 20 years this time).
Huge thanks to Pulp Live World for making this event possible!
