This British pop rock band is back! The Vamps joined Rico and Karla for an exclusive online interview to talk about the newly-released “Cherry Blossom” and more on All Out.
Things started off on a high note as our resident Vamily, Karla, welcomed Brad, Connor, James, and Tristan in a clever intro sprinkled with The Vamps song references (it was genius, tbh), which the band and Rico all applauded! Then they got to talking about the new album and how things have been since its release.
Brad said that the last few days have been “pretty mad,” since the band spent about two years working hard to bring Cherry Blossom to life. “These songs that you kind of poured all of your hard work into are out, and they’re everybody else’s. So it’s a weird mix of emotions, but the reaction’s been insane, and the fans have just been so incredible.”
This album was a big step in a new direction for The Vamps — they decided it was time to make the bulk of the music on their own and worked with a smaller, more intimate team than before. It was a bit of a test of the band to veer away from their old routine, but a decision that ultimately paid off. “It’s consequently left us in a position of feeling really proud and happy, satisfied, and invigorated in a slightly different way,” James said.
Musically, the new sound is more elevated, more experimental, while still being undoubtedly The Vamps. Brad credits Haim and Royal Blood as little pieces of inspiration behind the album’s musicality, but overall the Cherry Blossom sound is something they feel is the band’s own new world. “We were just so absorbed in the album for like a year, so we weren’t necessarily listening to a lot, and I think that meant that we created something that we felt could really stand on its own two feet.”
The Vamps has coined this album as a rebirth, one with a new sound and new style, and Karla mentioned that hearing the first single “Married in Vegas” was like a teaser to what fans could expect with this great new chapter. Would they say this is the most honest album they’ve ever created? Definitely, a hundred percent yes, they admitted. “Especially for this time in our lives!” Tristan added. The band went way out of their comfort zone to make this album, but as they said, ‘that’s where the best things happen.”
