Mayday Parade, punk pop band form Tallahasee, Florida took their Sunnyland Tour to Manila last May 5, 2019.
Ahead of their Manila show, the band also performed for their fans in Cebu at the Sky Hall Seaside last May 2.
The show was a glorious mix of all the things we love about Mayday Parade. We are in Sunnyland era but they still willingly and whole-heartedly played all the emo (yes, there it is, I said emo! haha) classics we love from Mayday Parade.
"I won't lie, I only love you for the heartbreak!"
Derek Sanders and the rest of the band started the concert with "Never Sure." It was a hyped up performance that set the mood for the whole show.
Next, they played "Jersey" that immediately took us back to 2007. It made us all jump up and down thinking 'bout our My Space accounts. It didn't help that with the stage setup, they were flashing the lyrics on the screen with cray graphics that switches from starry nights, to sunsets at the bay, to forest feels, to a girl standing in the middle of the rain -- all throughout the show.
Sunnyland as an album is a reminder of why current fans love Mayday Parade. They stayed true to their roots writing about hopeless romanticism and unrequited love. They also kept the balance of putting mid-tempo pop punk songs and mixing them with acoustic ones.
Welcome to Sunnyland as a show also feels like a reassurance that the band is still here (after so many years of creating music and going on the road) to give us what we've always wanted in punk rock/emo music. It feels nice to gather with the community that Mayday Parade put together through their music.
Headbanger choruses, driving intros, tender melodies <-- what we love about this show. We also loved the pastel confetti at the end! Check out the full setlist below :)
