Your wildest dream come true: we had the amazing Nadine Lustre back for another FANtastic Friday with Rico Robles to tell us all about her new album, Wildest Dreams! The highly-anticipated album under Careless Music was just released on Nadine’s birthday, October 31, inspired by dreams and everything she’s gone through the last couple of years.
The track Wildest Dreams, in particular, has a very interesting backstory: “I had a really vivid dream, and when I woke up, I told everyone about it and we tried to dissect the dream.” Nadine says it’s a dream that continues to inspire and affect her until today. “When that dream happened, that’s when I started really like opening up my eyes, and growing. And I was growing fast!” What exactly happened in that dream? Nadine says one day, she’ll explain it to everyone. We’re intrigued!
The single was a little teaser that fans and listeners could expect a different Nadine on the new album. “For someone like me, I’m fresh in the music industry. This isn’t something that I used to do before.” This time around, we’re seeing a more vulnerable side she was afraid to show before. Nadine credits Jhene Aiko for inspiring her to be more honest in her music and writing. “She’s really my idol! Her album Trip is just her letting loose and showing everyone everything that she went through.”
Thanks to a great team, Nadine could bring this dream and vulnerability to life. She mentioned Bret Jackson, Marcus Davis, James Reid, and Calvin Keith as just some of the amazing people who helped make Wildest Dreams happen. And surprise, surprise! Rico brought it Bret, Marcus, Massiah, and plenty more of Nadine’s good friends on the livestream to say hi and greet Nadine a happy birthday.
Nadine chatted with the surprise guests and Rico about what it was like to work with them on the album. “Every time I got into the studio, I didn’t feel any pressure. It was just really fun,” she said about producer Marcus Davis. He was one of the people involved in the album very early on, as he and Nadine started working on the album’s concept early in the year. As Nadine put it everything fell into place effortlessly with this pair. Davis also wrote the song Save a Place after Nadine told him a story about her late brother. The track is such a sweet and heartfelt tribute!
“What an honor and a privilege to have been there from the beginning of your career and to see what it’s become now,” Marcus told Nadine. “You deserve this! I think you’re gonna catch this country by surprise and by storm.”
When Bret Jackson joined the stream, he praised all the hard work Nadine put into the music along with the team. “This has been one of the craziest dreams we’ve ever had, making this album. It’s the best piece of work Careless has ever put out. This moment really belongs to Nadine,” Jackson said.
With a solid vision, newfound confidence, and a supportive team, Nadine has put together an album that embodies who she is, and how the ups and downs of her life have shaped her into the person she is today. This is a message that Nadine hopes fans pick up from the music and relate to in their own way. “I really hope that people get to know me even more, that my life isn’t just all glitz and glamour, and just happiness. It’s really something that people would relate to as well.”
She knows that not everyone will understand or appreciate Wildest Dreams, but that’s okay! She’s still proud of her work and the big steps she’s taken to make it happen. Plus, the visual album is really her gift to the fans, she says. How sweet is that? It’s Nadine’s birthday, but she’s the one giving the gifts!
Nadine’s birthday wish for this year? “I’m good where I’m at. I’m happy and I’m contented, and siguro I wish that it would stay that way for a very long time,” she said. “I’m just really excited for the days to come, for all the challenges that are gonna come my way. And I just really hope that everyone enjoys the album!” Aww, we’re happy to hear she’s happy! It looks like it’s gonna be a great year ahead for this lady.
Before the livestream ended, Nadine gave a message to all her fans who have supported her since the early days of her career. “I just wanna thank you all for sticking by me! It’s been a long time, all the fans that supported me since the Pop Girls days pa, it’s been such a long time already. Thank you so much for non-stop support and all the love, and I can’t wait to share with you all this album. I treat the album and the visual album as a gift for all of them and I hope you all like it. Thank you so much for everything!”
