juan karlos’ journey began in 2014 when he first captured the public's attention as a contestant on The Voice Kids, where he inclined himself easily to the Rock and Roll genre. Soon after, he transitioned to acting, with his first role on Maalaala Mo Kaya portraying none other than himself. More acting gigs followed, but despite his growing success on TV, he began to feel a disconnect in 2018. It was then that juan karlos realized that, while he had found success, he wasn’t pursuing his true passion—music.
He recalls how he decided to take a step back from the world of television to fully immerse himself in creating music on his terms. It was a liberating moment for him, offering the freedom to do what he loved without the constraints of fame.
One of his early defining moments came with the release of ‘Demonyo’ in 2018. juan karlos had initially written the song and turned it into something that truly reflected his artistic vision. That same year, he released his hit song ‘Buwan,’ a love song that quickly became a national sensation, taking his place in the OPM scene.
For juan karlos, songwriting is deeply personal, one that varies with every track. Some songs come quickly, like ‘Buwan,’ which took him just five to ten minutes to write. Others, like ‘Ere,’ took nearly nine months to finish. “Songs are mood-based and situational,” he says. ‘Ere’ helped people to freely express themselves, and he is fascinated by the mixed reactions it sparked online.
His approach to collaboration is built upon authenticity and creative freedom. In his recent track ‘Medyo Ako’ with Moira Dela Torre, juan karlos intentionally left space for Moira to contribute her voice and ideas. The song reflects curiosity about someone’s well-being after a relationship, with hard-hitting lines like, "Mayro’n na bang ibang nagpapasaya sa’yo? O alam niya ba kung anong gusto mo?"
juan karlos wants to perform in more intimate settings, envisioning gigs at smaller venues where he can connect with fans on a deeper level. “There’s a beautiful intimacy in being close to the audience,” he says. He recalls a rainy night at the Adlaw sa Ormoc event, where he and the crowd shared an unforgettable experience despite the downpour.
Looking ahead to 2025, juan karlos hints at two exciting projects in the works as he further emphasizes his passion for acting. Music-wise, he plans on focusing on creating rather than just releasing. “It’s about the process, the ride itself,” he explains.
As he gears up for his concert, he’ll share the stage with artists like Moira Dela Torre, ZILD, Janine Berdin, Paolo Benjamin, and possibly Kyle Echarri and Gloc-9. juan karlos remains humble and thankful. “I wouldn’t be here if not for everyone who’s supported me and listened to my songs from the start,” he says.
His message to those going through tough times, whether heartbreak or life’s other challenges, is one of empathy: “We are all human. Talk to somebody. You are not alone.” He reminds us that life’s ups and downs are like a roller coaster, and the best thing to do is enjoy the ride.
juan karlos’ story is one of resilience, authenticity, and gratitude—qualities that have shaped him into the artist he is today and will no doubt continue to drive his career forward as he steps onto the SM Mall of Asia Arena stage this November.
